Knight & Day

It's all about being in the right place at the right time.  Being a fan of Tom Cruise since his humble beginning in "Risky Business", I was on alert when I learned that he was filming scenes from his latest flick "Knight and Day" in Boston.  On my lunch break I combed the streets of Back Bay in hopes to catch a glimpse of the celebrity.  Although there were many reports of "Cruise" sightings all over the city, I wasn't so lucky.  I would have to be satisified with seeing him on the silver screen.

I haven't seen a Tom Cruise movie since Mission Impossible III.  His star became tarnished by his bizarre and controversial behavior preceeding his marriage to Katie Holmes.  Nevertheless, when I saw the trailer for Knight and Day, I was thrilled.  On Friday, to escape the heat, I settled into a 4:15 matinee at Showcase Cinema.   I walk into theatre 7 and it's empty.  I always sit in the first row from the top.  I select a seat dead center.  I look around and giggle at being the sole person in the theatre.  I try to text my friend about it but the send fails.  I look at the clock on my phone, 4:07.  The movie begins at 4:15. I restlessly watch the onslaught of commercials.  Since when did they start showing commercials at the movies? The coming attractions start.  By the time the trailers end it's 4:30.  This irks me.  If the movie starts at 4:30 then why is it published to start at 4:15?

The movie begins.  The opening scene is at the airport.  Cruise's character, Roy Miller, is milling about the escalator surveying the scene.  Here enters June Havens, played by Cameron Diaz.  As June dismounts the escalator Roy deliberately bumps into her and the adventure begins.  Knight and Day is a stylish action/comedy spy movie reminiscent of the 007 series with a modern twist.   Cruise, as handsome as ever, is adept at playing the suave and always calm secret agent.  Diaz is believable as the innocent and sometimes spastic heroine .  The pair did have a certain on screen chemistry.  Staring at Diaz, I couldn't help thinking that she's had some plastic surgery.  I've never seen her shot close before.

If you're looking for great entertainment, I highly recommend Knight and Day.  Enjoy the show!

I've never been a fan of her either. I don't know what the attraction is. My friend loves her though...
