No Tolerance in RI

Newport, RI, Labor Day

"Hey, I thought we decided on linking pinkies?" I said to my boyfriend as we were walking down Thames St. yesterday morning.  This is our solution to hand holding while taking a walk.  The palm in palm thing just doesn't work.  It's too awkward.

We are menadering along and all of a sudden my boyfriend yells out "that women is driving and texting!"  He  decides to teach her a lesson, and runs across the street in front of the culprit's moving car.  (this isn't as bad as it sounds since her speed probably wasn't much faseter than 15 miles/hr. But still, who does that?) This takes me completely by surprise and I'm stunned by his stupidity.  This stunt by my ingenius boyfriend causes the driver to blurt out several explatives.  He shouts accusations in retalliation. The whole epidsode unravels in front a sidewalk full of pedestrians.  "What were you thinking??!!, who does that??" I say as I join him on the other side of the street.  He replies that texting while driving is illegal and if he got hurt he'd have won in court.

What do you think readers? Texting while driving is illegal in Rhode Island.  If you were on the jury, would you find that my boyfriend's behavior was premeditated and would it impact your decision to find the defendant guilty?

It's quite clear that your b/f was just trying to demonstrate, to you, what a courageous guy he is.

And that he would be willing to lay down his life for you.

What more do you want?

it's illegal in Mass, too. Many times, instead of holding hands (Shan says it's awkward because he is so tall, I like it) I hold his elbow. He likes it because it's old fashioned. Me too. :)
