Life in reverse

When you were a child/teen, did you know what you wanted to be when you grew up? I reflect back on those years and only remember trying to survive the turmoil of youth. This "trauma" prevented me from getting in touch with myself.  I wish we could live life in reverse.  Now that I'm an adult, I have myriad interests that I didn't have as a teen that I could've pursued in college.  I remember being 15 sitting in the office of my high school guidance counselor.  "It's time for you to figure out if you want to go to college and what you want to major in?"  Ummm hmmmm, gosh this is confusing??? That's what was going through my head at the time.  It's seems ridiculous to be expected to make such a life altering decision at 15.  Nevertheless, my naivety then certainly has had a profound effect on my career.

To quote a piece of sage wisdom that I received from an ex-boyfriend, "your career doesn't define you." Then I really didn't want to hear it.  I was too irked with my circumstances.  I was more interested in feeling sorry for myself.  Over time I was able to come to peace with my existence. Now it is my creedo.  I vowed to make the best of my situation and make an effort to focus more on my hobbies.
In my early twenties, I became interested in stones/crystals and their healing properties.  This hobby has resulted in the acquisition of some very cool pieces.  I've decided to start a new series where I will introduce you to different varities of stones/crystals and give you a brief description of their background and magical benefits.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.  All specimens are from my personal collection.

Desert Rose Gypsum

Gypsum is a mineral composed of Hydrous Calcium sulfate.  The Desert Rose variety is appropriately named after the arid environment in which it forms. It is commonly found in numerous areas of the Sahara Desert. Sand gets trapped in the crystal while it's growing giving it that tan and opaque appearance.
