Fire

I was studying my Tarot cards and observed that the Queen in each suit has a cat familiar. It is my assumption that this imagery correlates back to the lore that witches and their cats share a special and magical bond.  I find this quite fascinating and ironic because it is a joke in society that many single woman have a cat or cats as pets.  This may not seem unusual since many people keep pets.  Animals are a wonderful source of companionship & happiness.  But, I'd like to examine this further.  There are many habits of the witch, which ultimately caused him/her strife and condemnation, that our culture has come to embrace.  Many witches, or wise ones were summoned for their talents as herbalists to cure the ill.  Presently there are specialty stores for natural supplements.  In the first quarter of 2010, GNC reported a net income of $26 million.  Another ritual of the witch is meditation.  Meditation is a significant exercise for relieving stress.  There are meditation centers across the United States.  Lastly, the elements: water, fire, air, and earth, are a staple to nature based religions.  We've all sat around the camp fire at one time or another toasting marshmallows.

Just a little food for thought.  I am thrilled with the New Age revolution and what it has done for alternative religions. Some of you may be reading this and thinking my idealogy absurd.   Balk if you must, but I believe there is truly a little bit of witch in all of us.
