It's in the way that we speak

I am currently reading a book titled "Wicked" that takes place in modern day (and fictional) Larkshire, England.  I find the language of the characters fascinating.  There is an abundance of words, phrases and slang that I am experiencing for the first time.  I dis-embarked from the train this morning after being thoroughly engrossed in this story.  Instead of riding the escalator, I said to myself, I think I'll take a jaunt up the stairs.  If I hadn't just put my book away, I'm not so sure that jaunt would have been the preferred word to describe my activity on the stairs.  However, it felt fabulous to use it. :)
