Monday thru Friday I rise at 5:30 a.m. to get ready for work. One hour really isn't enough time. By the end of the hour, I am in a complete frenzy to get out the door. Nevertheless, on most mornings, I manage to leave the house by 6:35. This allows me to be on time for the train with 3-4 minutes to spare. In general I'll stick to the routine, but I do have a tendency to occassionaly get off track. Like this morning for instance.

I was on the verge of making my securtiy sweep (doors locked, stove and oven off, windows at a safe level for kitty) when I realize I wasn't wearing any jewelry. I fly to the bedroom to don some bling. The jewelry selection process isn't always an easy one. Not only does it have to match each other, but it has to match the outfit. I immediately get immersed in the task as if I had all day to complete it. First I adorn my left wrist with the sterling silver and garnet cuff that I wear everyday. I'm wearing this beautiful periwinkle blue blouse with a v-neck line that commands a necklace. I remember the blue agate pendant and dive for one of my three jewelery boxes. First one, no, second one, negative, third one, EUREKA! There, in my heart shaped box, lies my agate necklace in a snarl. UGH...patience isn't one of my virtues. I swear repeatedly as I detangle my necklaces. I hussel to the bathroom to grab my toothbrush and paste (my teeth will have to wait til I get to work) and rush out the door.
I've been meaning to do something about my necklace situation but have been ignoring it. About three or four years ago I had this unique necklace stand. It was a dress form with the most elaborate lil dress sewn on it. At the top was a curly hook to hang all your necklaces from. It was like the cutest thing EVA! When I decided to move, I also decided to purge. I felt like I had a tremendous amout of clutter on my bureau so I hastily tossed the necklace stand. (my impulsive streak once again wreaking havoc) But, I'm in luck! I've seen a whole collection of these dress form necklace stands in a shop on Newbury Street. Knowing that I run the risk of being charged an exorbitant amout for one of these necklace stands on Newbury St., I decide to do some comparison shopping on line. They are averaging about $25.00. Taking into consideration the cost for shipping, I set a limit for myself of $30.00. I arrive at the shop and find them in different styles and sizes. The larger ones are $50.00. Much too much. As I proceed to leave, I see one on the tippity top shelf. It is a victorian style dress, in fuschia emroidered silk with purple and brown ruffled trim. The best part, it has a train. I'm in love! I ask the the sales clerk for the price and she says "$30.00". Sweet!....ch-ching!

Do you ever notice it's the small things that count? This was a great way to start the week!
