Amethyst

AMETHYST is a member of the quartz family. Collectors are enchanted by this variety of quartz because of it's beautiful shades of purple.  Amethyst can take on two forms.  It can either grow in long prismatic six sided crystals, or in druzes.  A druze is crust of pointed terminations. 

The characteristics of amethyst are indigenous to the region it is grown in.  Here is a list of locations and the corresponding attributes:

Vera Cruz, Mexico-pale, clear, prismatic, double terminated: they are phantomed, meaning they have a clear quartz interior and a purple exterior.

Guerrero, Mexico-dark purple in color, prismatic: the phantom effect is opposite with a purple interior and clear, white exterior.  This reversal makes it one of the most valuable in the world.
